about

In mid-September, I spent time in Beirut, Byblos, the Beqaa Valley, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem. I got the idea for this tune shortly after my return to the States.
In walking around each of these towns, among the longest-inhabited cities in the world, the sense of history is unshakable. Jerusalem, in particular, has a curious quality of air in the Old City-- after about half an hour, your palms, your arms, and your face begin to feel sticky with dust. It's almost as if the prayers, thoughts, and words the past several thousand years are rubbing off on the visitors.
"Salaam" means "Peace" in Arabic. It's a sentiment that I like to remember, especially around this time of year.
