Larry Sifel was a luthier, pearl inlay artist, all-around craftsman, and friend of my dad's. When we went to his wake, everyone who owned one of his instruments leaned them up against the casket. It looked as though it was dipped in pearl. After hearing Al Petteway play "Spindrift" at the wake, I went home and tried to learn it. I stumbled on this melody instead, and just kept tinkering with it. When I played with Jake James and Danny Flinn of New York Brogue for a week at Rí Rá, I got the idea to finally finish the tune.
